Senior secondary schools in Ghana were to officially reopen on Monday 9th January but Ghana Education Service (GES) pushed the reopening date to January 10, 2023.
The decision was because the original reopening date of Monday, January 9, 2023 had been declared a public holiday in lieu of the 5th Constitution Day which fell on a weekend.
The information available to us indicates some schools have not started serving food at dining to students.
Some students and a teacher at Armed Forces Secondary/Technical High School in Kumasi who spoke to Africanews360.com on anonymity confirmed the news.
The teacher said: students haven’t been served at dining since we resumed, we are told the government is now distributing food items to the various Senior High Schools”.
“Parents should send more money to their wards for feeding” the teacher added.
A student who reported on Monday also said: “I reported on Monday 9th January 2023 and till now we haven’t been served any food at dining, I have used all my money to buy food”.
The student added that food vendors at the school canteen too are nowhere to be found therefore, they have to resort to Bantama and Adum to buy food with the fear of being attacked in the evening.
A first-year student also lamented that the situation had affected their finances since they were asked to buy detergents, Toilet Tissue, Bulbs and others upon arrival which they were not given prior notice.
The Ghana Education Service could not be reached for comment.
